Artist Statement

I am an ex-city dweller gone feral; I find consolation in nature, security in her seclusion and a sense of belonging in her most remote reaches. I am intrigued by a heightened sense of awareness that seems to engulf me when in her grasp and this very notion motivates much of my work in photography. So too, my background as a painter combined with my obsession with anthropological histories and early film drive my vision. Often autobiographical, I build a stylized ‘idyllic’ world while remaining rooted in a melancholy realm of nostalgic recall where the main protagonist in the vast majority of my photographs is a woman. I endeavor to highlight those personally disquieting moments that often make me feel as though I may have entered a dystopian, unsettled dimension in time.
