Unless the competition specifies otherwise, we recommend about 2,000 pixels on the longest side, keeping the original proportions.
For example, a landscape image might be 2,000 x 1,500 pixels and a portrait image 1,500 x 2,000 pixels. These are examples, not required dimensions; do not stretch or crop your image to match them, and do not enlarge a smaller original just to reach 2,000 pixels.
Images must be no larger than 10 MB, no more than 20,000 pixels wide or high, and no more than 80 megapixels in total (width x height: 80,000,000 pixels maximum). All three limits apply, even to compressed files. If an image exceeds a limit, the upload is stopped.
If either pixel limit is exceeded, reduce the image's width and height before uploading; reducing JPEG quality or file size alone does not reduce the pixel count. Images within these limits are automatically resized to the organization's requirements.
If your image is less than 800 pixels on the longest side, use the original, larger file if available. If it is not available, do not enlarge the image; a smaller image is preferable to reduced image quality.
